Our timelapse cameras are permanently installed in the field, powered by solar panels. The cameras automatically take one image, every daylight hour of everyday.
The Platte Basin gets water from weather!
During Spring and Summer, high levels of precipitation substantially contribute to instream flows on the Platte River. 2012 saw little precipitation, largely impacting the summer drought.
Ogallala Aquifer Feeds the Platte
The porous Sandhills in Northern Nebraska provide flow for many small ground-fed streams. The North Loup River flows year round, rarely freezing over.
Snow in the Rockies flows even in Nebraska
Rocky Mountain snows contribute to instream flows at thaw in the Spring. Without adequate snowpack, the Platte suffers, even as far downstream as Lincoln Nebraska.
Dams and Reservoirs
The Platte River, especially the North fork, supply a valuable and complex delivery of water for irrigation, power generation, and recreation through a series of dams and reservoirs.
